Chaplain Publishing, Inc.

Christian Book Publishing...Sola Deo Gloria

An Overview of the Process

At Chaplain Publishing the process for getting your book or manuscript produced, published, and distributed consists of three steps: 1) Receiving and approving your manuscript; 2) Assigning a team to bring your project from raw manuscript to "camera-ready" copy; and 3)  Printing an initial quantity of books for use in promotion and beginning sales.

Receiving and approving your manuscript

1.  We prefer to receive a complete manuscript - complete in that all the writing; i.e., title page, dedication page (if any), Table of Contents, chapter divisions and headings, the text itself, references, index (if any), be submitted at one time. This is only our preference. If you don't have it all ready keep working on it. When you are approximately two-thirds finished, send us that much and we will get started.

2.  Your manuscript must be submitted in two ways:    1)  CD or 3.5 disk through the mail, or 2) via email attachment as a word processed document. After your manuscript has been edited and proofed we will convert it to an electronic file (PDF) for printing and storage.

3.   Please complete and submit the information form on this website. Some of this information will be used on your book's cover or inside on the back page.

4.  When we receive your manuscript it will be given a cursory read for content and suitability for publishing by Chaplain Publishing. We publish all literary genres; including poetry, fiction, nonfiction, biography, historical, etc. If your manuscript is accepted for publishing,  the publisher, or an Author Support Specialist, will work with you throughout the project.

5.  When your book has been approved for publishing you will need to make a monetary deposit to your account. This and other payments may be made online through paypal, credit card, or through the mail by check. When your account is paid in full your books will be printed.

Completing your project

1.  When your manuscript is approved you will receive a verification email.

2.  Your publishing team will consist of an Author Support Specialist who will be your main contact throughout the project. S/he will be asking questions from time to time regarding finishing your manuscript (if not submitted complete). An Editor will be assigned who will only work on your book until completed. Our editors typically hold Master's or Doctoral degrees and have extensive experience in writing and publishing.  After your book is edited, a Formatter will be assigned to design the interior layout, determine font type and size, margins, graphics placement (if any), headers/footers, footnotes, etc.  After formatting, a Proofreader will be assigned who will do a final read for any mistakes that may have been missed.  The book will then be converted to an electronic file (PDF) for printing the proof.

3.  Registration for inclusion in Books in Print (The standard print resource that makes the publishing/purchasing information about your book available to every library and bookstore in the U.S.) will begin.

4.  Should you have any questions not answered, you have access to me, the Publisher. I am here for the final decisions.

Printing, Promoting, and Marketing/Distributing

1.  Once your proof is finished we will mail you an unbound copy for you to do a final check (Print and Bind and Self-Publishing Option). The proof is yours to keep.

2.  We will then print your books and mail them to you. We will print an initial quantity of books for the author and an amount necessary to get your book listed with Ingram Distributors, Amazon.com, Borders.com, Abebooks.com, and many more online affiliate partners and bookstores. Your book will also be submitted to Barnes and Noble and Borders. These outlets may/may not choose to stock your books on their shelves. Chaplain Publishing makes no guarantee that your book will be accepted by any major book distributor, but does promise to pursue such distribution.
