Christian Book Publishing...Sola Deo Gloria

Publishing Options

Chaplain Publishing is a Christian book publisher offering a high quality book product, guaranteed publishing (if accepted for publication), and attempted distribution of your book.

As the publisher, I am open to your situation and ideas. Share your ideas regarding how your book can be profitably published and I will listen. Let me know your needs. The following are the typical paths to publication most authors use:

Traditional Publishing Option

With this option all costs associated with the book from raw manuscript to completed copy and distribution are absorbed by the publisher. If your book shows enough promise for sales or academic interest as determined by the publisher, traditional publishing may be a possibility. Certain literary genres and authors of previously published works will be considered. With traditional publishing, the author is not required to purchase any books.

This publishing option includes, at no cost to the author, the following: formatting, editing, custom cover, proofing, perfect bound binding, initial printing, Library of Congress registration, Books in Print registration, 13-digit ISBN, and EAN scannable barcode. At the point of public distribution, attempted worldwide distribution of your book through Ingram distributors (one of the largest national/international book distributors) will be made, listing with online retailers including: Google Books.com, Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com, and Chaplain Publishing.com will be done, submission to Baker & Taylor (2nd largest distributor), and submission to brick and mortar stores such as Barnes and Noble booksellers, Borders stores, and Christian Book Distributors will be made. The author should expect distribution to these reailers to take 5-8 months, or longer. Also included with traditional publishing is one complimentary author copy, and the earning of perpetual royalties for every copy sold over 100 (including author purchases).

The Subsidy Option

This publishing option provides the author with a professionally published title, allows for author input and changes along the way, and a greater retention of author rights. Our subsidy publishing differs from all other major subsidy publishing companies in that we provide a "bundle" of book publishing services for one charge. Most books I receive for publication, even though I am told by many authors that their manuscript is "camera-ready," require EXTENSIVE work before I can make them available to the public. The book publishing industry standard is a maximum of 12 total errors in any one book. This may seem like a lot, but most books sent to me by new authors have at least that many errors on the first page! So, I can not and will not publish a book that is sub-standard. Consequently, all manuscripts I receive are professionally edited, formatted, proof-read, etc. This requires a lot of time and money expended by Chaplain Publishing and its staff. A portion of these expenses are paid by the author, but the costs are not prohibitive.

Print and Bind Option

The print and bind program provides a very inexpensive way to get your manuscript or college course notes bound and in to book form. With this program, the author pays 50 percent of the retail price of the book as set by the publisher and agreed to by the author. The price includes the printing of a 4-color cover (cover provided by author), printing of text, and Perfect Bound binding. There is a $25 charge for an unbound proof, and actual postage charges to ship your proof and books.  A minimum order of 50 books is required. Optional products and services such as editorial, Library of Congress Number, ISBN, EAN barcode, higher quality paper, custom cover, etc. are available and priced upon request. This option primarily meets the needs of an author who does not desire or need professional publishing or distribution services. With this option no contract is necessary and the Chaplain Publishing imprint is not included on the book. This option is excluded from all book registrations such as ISBN, scannable EAN barcode, Library of Congress, and Books in Print. The author also retains all rights to the work.

Self Publishing Option

The self publishing option is becoming more and more popular with new authors. Chaplain Publishing is committed to helping you self publish if this is what you desire. We will provide you with the free consultation needed for you to submit your manuscript to us for publication. The author does all the work on the manuscript and cover then submits to Chaplain Publishing for an assigned ISBN and EAN barcode. The author is required to purchase a minimum of 50 copies of the book and pay shipping costs. The cost is the same as in the print and bind option. An additional $100 for a unique ISBN and scanable EAN barcode is required. The book must meet industry standards to be assigned an ISBN.

At Chaplain Publishing our goal is three-fold: 1)  To publish your book,  2)  To promote your book, and 3) To produce a professional, high quality product.  If you share the same goal, we would like to hear from you. I invite you to take a thorough look at who we are and how we operate, and  may God alone receive the glory for all that is accomplished.
